Oh, my aching hands

It’s that time of the year.  When the weather is drier, the woodstove is cranking out some major BTU’s (well, normally) and it seems that I’m constantly doing dishes or other chores that require my hands to be washed, scrubbed and dried countless times a day.
Just yesterday (after washing up milking stuff) I looked at my poor hands.  They were getting pretty cracked and my knuckles were starting to bleed a little.  I guess it’s past time that I start slathering on some good lotion before I really start hurting.
And lo and behold, what does Paul bring in with the mail, no more than like ten seconds after I make this earth-shattering realization?
Lemon Balm and Lavender Goat Milk Soaps and
Shea/Beeswax Salve!
Two bars of heavenly-scented homemade soaps and a jar of Shea & Beeswax balm from Sarah Jean at BeeWench Farm!
I was the lucky winner of her giveaway last week!  And don’t tell me I didn’t share the opportunity to enter to win, ‘cause I did, so phfffftttttt!!  Now don’t you wish YOU entered?
I’ve used the balm like five times already since last night (after a luxurious soaping-up in the shower with the Lavender soap) and my knuckles are already on their way to healing up.
Ahhhhhhhh……
Thanks again, Sarah Jean!

  2. My hands are really tough but if they get too bad,I slather on vaseline at night and wear cotton gloves...I do that with my feet often during winter (wearing socks, not gloves!)

  3. So you're saying this magic balm will heal those nasty, deep cuts I get in my skin around my fingernails all winter? Please say it's so. Both hubby and I have tried thousands (I say THOUSANDS! Okay, TENS anyway.) of preparations and nothing seems to help.

  4. You mean someone else has rough dry cracked hands besides me, broken nails too, lol, hate going into a store and standing next to someone with fancy manicure, but I just think of all the fun time I have playing in the dirt while they sit in a nail salon and I saved all that money to spend on something else.

  5. That is good to know! I think it's a Homestead condition - you gotta use your hands, no matter what the weather and wear and tear.

  6. I've never heard of the brand but I love Burt's Bees products! I have the same problem so it must be something about herbs and beeswax....

  7. Soak your hands in plain white vinegar for two minutes each day and they will heal...really!! I did a post on my blog awhile back called "Relief for cracked, dry hands" if you feel inclined to look it up. The lovely salve you won would be just the thing to put on afterwards! :)

  8. Sharon, I know! I've won THREE giveaways in the past month!!

gld, I've heard of that, but have yet to do it. Honestly, I've just recently started using lotions; I HATE stuff on my skin! I know, it's bad, but I'm overcoming my lotion-phobia.

Mama Pea, I'll use plain shea butter when it's gets really bad...but now I don't have to dig out my container (where DID that go to??) 'cause I now have this new stuff!!!

Tombstone, I often wonder the same thing. How does one get fancy, long, painted fingernails like that? Oh, you don't dig in the garden or shovel goat/chicken/mule crap all day....That's how they do it!!

    Susan, yep, it's a homesteading-poop-shoveling-dirt-digging kind'a thing!

Leigh, I've seen Burt's Bees, but never bought any. Maybe I'll pick up one when this container is gone to try it out.

Candy, I'll "think" about trying that....but as vinegar smell makes me want to gag, I'm not sure I can do the whole two minutes.

  9. I have been slathering on the salve lately too, same time every year, but I always forget how bad the cracking is until it happens!

  10. I'm so glad you're enjoying it! I made a big batch with plans to give as gifts at Christmas but I've given almost all of my jars to "needy" hands and now I don't have any for presents! Hahaha! Now we'll all have soft, supple hands!
