And there they go.....

I finally planted two rows of winter squash (banana squash & butternut) Wednesday afternoon.  I'm late doing so.  Terribly, terribly late.  But I finally did it.

And then, this came Thrusday morning:

And shortly after the rain stopped, there were a few forest visitors in the new underwater garden area, probably snacking on all those squash seeds.
Turkey hen.  Eating all my squash seeds.
Oh well.  At least the ground is sufficiently moist for the next round of seed-planting.  A Fall Garden, albeit.

It's off to the local feed store for more seeds.  I am a little sad though because I used ALL of the banana squash seeds I saved from last year.  Who knows if any survived.  Hope somebody downstream from us has a good banana squash harvest this fall.

  1. This year I could not find one mild banana pepper plant to plant. I had no seeds and it's a bit late too.

  2. That's a soggy mess :( Maybe you can find some plants already started? My squash and zucchini are huge. I've already lost one plant to the squash bugs. That reminds me, I need to go battle them again today :/

  3. Okay, I'll show my ignorance . . . is that a wild turkey hen?

  4. Mama Pea, I was trying to figure out what the heck that was too. It took me awhile to even see the head so I was really lost!
Carolyn, I have to hand it to you. You really ARE trying to do a post a day. My hat's off to you for that! lollll
Sorry about you're garden wash out. It's raining here as I sit here and type. I've been sitting pretty much on the sidelines watching the garden do what it wants. I have noticed that the new product that Bonide put out (Eight) seems to be helping tremendously so far as I can tell. Of course I have to get the binoculars out to see what's going on in the middle of the garden. If I dared to try and walk out there for fear of being sucked down into the mud, never to seen again.

  5. Argh! As much as we need it, rain can be a nuisance some times! Great shot of the turkey hen.

  6. Look downstream, you may find some plants in a week or so. I left a variety of squash laying on the garden last fall. I now have in full bloom, yellow crookneck, one called Cozelle and another zucchini type. All I had to do was thin them out. They may all have crossed....who knows what I will have.

    At least you got rain!
